Color Perception

It is also possible to change the perception of a space by changing its color.

In general, somber colors tend to shrink space while light colors tend to expand it. As well, by playing carefully with colors and the level of their hues, how a room is perceived can be modified and its flaws diminished.

In short, colors influence the perception we have of a space, so it’s important to know a few guiding principals before starting a paint job.

•What will the space be used for?
•What is the natural or artificial lighting of the room?
•What kind of atmosphere do you want to create?
•How is the room furnished and which colors already predominate?

Shrink a room

Making a room appear larger.
Favor white and tinted shades of white and light tones.

Shorten-a-room

Shortening a space that appears too long.
Favor a deep color.

Expand a room

Making a room appear smaller.
It is preferable to select dark colors.
